There are over 2,700 acres at Silver Star and two distinct areas - Vance Creek and Putnam Creek. Vance Creek looms protectively over the village, which is situated mid-mountain - so that it is possible to ski-in and ski-out from your accommodation wherever you are in resort 30 minutes from Vernon, BC.

Most people will start the day by skiing down to the Vance Creek Express chair; this will take you to the summit and your choice of blue, green or black terrain. Beginners and those fond of a green run to find their ski legs in the morning should take 'Far Out' to awaken the reflexes - after this long swoop through the trees you should be limber enough to enjoy the day. There are many spirit-lifting blues and competent intermediates will have a whale of a time on the 'Gopher Glades,' 'Walt's Run' and 'Big Dipper.' If by the end of the day you haven't managed to get your fill of swishing and swaying down the white stuff - do not fear - Silver Star has a night skiing operation, so you can keep on racking up the vertical till as late as 9pm.

Over on Putnam Creek, despite one long green run - the feel of the terrain changes quite dramatically. Here we're talking steep, fast downhill on well-maintained trails. Or vast bumps, squeezed into narrow couloirs that await the faint of heart - 'Head Wall' and 'Kassanova' have this sort of gnarly terrain in spades. This is an enormous area - which the trail map fails to do justice. Advanced skiers will be in hog heaven here. There are also some blue trails on Putnam Creek - so it is entirely possible for groups with very different ideas of what a 'good' run is to ski together taking different routes and meeting for the chair-ride back to the top.
